Special Announcement on Russian Invasion of Ukraine

In light of the current invasion in Ukraine, we wanted to share some insights from Lon Augustenborg, who’s firm Novus Intelligence is a strategic partner of Succession Advisors and a frequent contributor of content around risk management. Lon was a Senior Intelligence Service Officer who served in the CIA’s Clandestine Service and Directorate of Operations for 35 years, with his last position being Chief of CIA’s largest domestic office.

What the United States Intelligence Community had warned of has now become
reality. Russia is not only invading and taking over Ukraine, but new United
States and European sanctions against Russia has brought aggressive and
comprehensive Russian responses that will affect our everyday lives. In
particular, it is more important than ever to be proactive in improving both your
physical and cybersecurity posture. Having been focused on Russia and the
former Soviet Union during my 35 years at the CIA, this crisis falls well within our
area of expertise at Novus Intelligence.

United States critical infrastructure, businesses, and individuals connected to digital assets, if compromised, would prove to be devastating to even small businesses and family offices. Even our physical security is at risk, as well as our ability to travel, deal with inflation, and purchase essential goods and services. We need to be aware of the challenges we now face and be prepared for what may come. The following are some key areas where we recommend you focus on to improve your security posture:

  • Cyber Threats:
    • Detecting, mitigating, and responding to Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.
    • Establishing best practices to counter phishing attacks and malicious cyber actors.
    • Backing up your entire system in the event destructive malware penetrates your IT infrastructure.
  • International Travel
    • Being aware of and avoiding threats to US citizens abroad.
    • Staying briefed on global threat levels.
  • Emergency Preparedness
    • Developing a plan to deal with crisis.
    • Acquiring the essentials to deal with shortages.
    • Ensuring all medical services and protective services remain accessible.

Novus is available to advise anyone on how best to mitigate, detect, and respond to any future cyberattacks, provide the intelligence and guidance that will improve your personal security, and instruct you on how to best be prepared for unforeseen events.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you would like a free consultation or would like more information on the current climate of the physical and cyber security posture of the United States and our allies.

Novus Intelligence provides due diligence, risk mitigation strategies, and cybersecurity solutions to clients across various industries.
