We at 1908 Advisors are not advocates for life settlements, in and of themselves. We believe, however, that a fundamental element of financial planning – often overlooked by even the most conscientious advisors today - should be a regular analysis of the utility of clients’ life insurance, and, in those instances that a policy is no longer of sufficient utility to justify maintaining it, a professionally-undertaken life settlement (the sale of an in-force life insurance policy to an institutional buyer at a price greater than the surrender value) should be discussed.
