Steps To Make Your Move Simple

Family moving and using a boxes

Moving is exciting, many times you are looking forward to getting into a new home or city and anticipating the adventures ahead, only downside is the actual MOVE.  Below are some helpful tips to destress and simplify your move.

  1. Create A Moving To-Do List And Timeline.

The best way to jump into planning a move is to plan it just as you would any event: start with a to-do list.  What is your timeline? What is your budget? What are the tasks that need to be completed? What items do you need to purchase in advance: packing tape, boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, extra screws, tools to breakdown and setup furniture, cleaning supplies, you name it?

  1. Declutter Before Packing.

Decluttering before diving into packing will have the single biggest impact on ensuring you have an efficient and more seamless move. Moving is a chance to really purge and streamline your household items.  I’d advise enlisting the assistance of a friend who will help you part with items such as the dress that you love but have not worn in the 8 years you have owned it.

  1. Set Aside Items To Sell.

Now that you have decluttered, you are likely to have some items that you may be able to get a bit of money for rather than just discarding. There are a number of companies and websites that are great for doing so.  Craigslist for furniture items, ebay for more unique niche items or theRealReal for designer clothing, shoes and handbags are just a few, you should also check out your local second hand to see what types of items they carry to illicit interest of some of your pieces.
